Metal Weight Calculator (Bar, Tube, Plate, Sheet)

Compute the theoretical weight of common stock shapes in steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, titanium and cast iron. Volumes are exact for the stated geometry, densities are nominal room-temperature values.

How to use this calculator

  1. Pick the profile: round bar, square bar, flat bar, plate or round tube.
  2. Enter the section dimensions and length in millimetres.
  3. Select the material or enter a custom density in g/cm3.

Frequently asked questions

Are these weights exact?

These are theoretical weights from nominal dimensions and standard densities. Real mill products carry dimensional and mass tolerances, so purchased weight can differ by a few percent.

Which density is used for stainless steel?

7.9 g/cm3 for the common 304 and 316 austenitic grades. Duplex is around 7.8 and ferritic grades about 7.7.

How do I calculate pipe weight per metre?

Use the round tube profile with outside diameter and wall thickness and enter a length of 1000 mm. The result is the mass per metre.
